Newer school test resultsDistrict and school MCA proficiency now shows the 2026 results (math, reading and science), released by MDE on September 30, with 2025 beside each figure. 2026 reading is a brand-new test with new cut scores, so it can’t be compared with 2025 or earlier reading results.
Statewide hunter success over timeDNR mode now shows Minnesota’s statewide deer hunter success rate, 2014–2025, by weapon type (firearms/archery/muzzleloader) — the one true success rate (harvest ÷ hunters) DNR itself publishes; it can’t be computed per DPA since most areas require no permit to hunt.
Winter Severity IndexDeer Permit Areas now show DNR’s Winter Severity Index (WSI) for the last 4 seasons — a measure of how hard a winter was on deer, based on temperature and snow depth — and it’s now a Color by option too. There’s no downloadable WSI dataset anywhere on DNR’s site; these numbers are OCR’d from the same per-DPA report image as the hunter stats below, kept only when two independent OCR passes agree.
Deer harvest trend charts + recent DPA harvestDNR mode’s Historic Harvest layer now shows a buck-vs-antlerless harvest trend chart when you click a kill block. Deer Permit Areas also now show their own harvest history — 2019–2025, tied to the current DPA numbering (not the older kill-block system) — with the same chart, from DNR’s annual harvest reports.

Percent Democrat/RepublicanElections mode’s Color by list gained “Percent Democrat” and “Percent Republican”, painted in that party’s own color, plus the same “Show only” range filter every other mode has — e.g. show only the precincts 60% Democrat or higher, and see how many match.
Health range filterHealth mode gained the same “Show only” range filter Crime, Permits and Schools already had — e.g. show only the ZIP codes where adult obesity is 40% or higher, and see how many match.
Change over timeEvery mode with more than one year can now map the CHANGE between two of them rather than a single snapshot. Elections gained a “Compare to” picker that colors precincts by how far they swung (like offices only — presidential against presidential, governor against governor); Schools gained ACT change since 2021 and year over year; Crime and Permits gained a “Compare to” picker for percent change against any other year. Each of these also has a “Show only” range filter, so you can ask for just the districts whose ACT rose a point or more, or just the counties where violent crime fell by 20% or more, and see how many match.
Census tract mapNew "📊 Census" mode — all 1,505 Minnesota census tracts with the full ACS 5-year profile: population, race/origin, income (including the household-income distribution), education and enrollment, housing (value, rent, tenure, year built), employment and industry mix, health insurance, disability, veterans, broadband and commute, plus an age pyramid. Color the map by any of ~49 measures, and see a population-weighted statewide figure for each.
Permit ownership ratePermits mode now shows percent of adults (18+) holding a valid carry permit per county, and the true cumulative count of valid permits (not just one year’s new applications) — available for all years 2021–2025.
Permits mapNew "🪪 Permits" mode — a county-level map of MN Permit to Carry data (applications, issued, denied, suspended, revoked, canceled, void, pending) from the BCA’s annual legislative report, by year (2022, 2023, 2025).
